Garibaldi Square in Casalmaggiore

Garibaldi Square, with the Town Hall in neo-Gothic style, is the hearth of Casalmaggiore.

Where
Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi 45, Casalmaggiore

Piazza Garibaldi is the main square in Casalmaggiore and it represents the town’s hearth. It’s “Listone" (the marble central floor) is the usual meeting point of the entire population.

It is the meeting point of all the town centre’s streets and here it takes place the market every Saturday and the main outdoor events like the Fiera di Piazza di Spagna and the Fiera di San Carlo.

The big square (96 x 38 meters) was built in the 17th Century, more precisely in 1618, in an area with a pond which was the real centre of the village.
In the year 1788 it was built here the Town Hall which divides it in two parts crating Turati Square at the back of the building and closing the space of Garibaldi Square in the area in front of the palace.

The most fascinating historic places of the town are all around the square, like the Diotti Museum, the Bijou Museum and the Torrione Estense, the only remain of the fortified Renaissance buildings.
